Fighting Allergies?? Raw Honey might be Your Answer!!

Produced right here on our farm! ๐Ÿ˜‹

It's that time of year again...

I hate to say the words as I know soo many of you are affected by it and it's so not fun!!

Allergies... and Colds....

it's bad when we as adults have it... we struggle thru our days with headaches, grumpiness, & bad attitudes simply because we don't  feel good,

AND yet so much depends on us... we dare not slow down!๐Ÿ˜

Know what I mean??

To make it even worse... our children start having symptoms.

When that happens, I KNOW something needs to change!!

So I start researching...๐Ÿ™‚

While there are lots of different things we use for optimal health; in this blog, I will highlight raw honey.

Honey is one of natureโ€™s purest foods for promoting general health. There are so many health benefits to honey; it truly is natureโ€™s superfood.

You can order our farmโ€™s honey here on our online store.

Eating a tablespoon of raw, local honey every morning can make a big difference in your allergy symptoms.

The key is to take the honey daily a few months before your allergy season begins.

How does it work??

I had been wondering about this one!!

  1. Ok, so the bees go out to surrounding areas to collect pollen to make their honey.

  2. Invariably, the bees will collect pollen from the plants that are causing your reaction.

  3. By taking a tablespoon of that raw honey from your area,  your immune system will get used to those plants bit by bit so that by the time allergy season comes around it won't bother you!!

How AMAZING is that??

Again, I'm in awe of our great Creator who gave us the 'medicine' we need!!

Honey is also a powerful booster to the immune system.

Raw honey contains lots of minerals, amino acids, and thousands of live enzymes. It keeps you healthy by fighting disease and boosting the digestive system.

I remember as a young child when I started coughing, my dad would often tell me to swallow a tablespoon of raw butter & a tablespoon of raw honey.

As a child, I thought it awful!  Seriously, eat a tablespoon of raw butter??!๐Ÿค”  (And I didn't care for honey back then either!)

Now, I smile, & realize Dad was smarter than I thought!๐Ÿ˜‰

The benefits of raw butter are amazing! (Read more here.)  Added with raw, local honey it can give your immune system the boost it needs to fight colds!!

What is RAW honey?? And how is it different from processed?

Raw honey is honey (nectar from flowers) that is pure, unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed.

This is one of the most important health benefits of the final product, as it preserves all the natural vitamins & enzymes.

Processed honey is heated and filtered, robbing it of natural nutrients.

To be sure that your honey is raw, it must say so on the label.

Currently, there is no regulation or certification for raw honey.

Words like "untreated" or "unpasteurized" can help, but may still not indicate a truly raw product. And it goes without saying that any honey labeled as "pasteurized" is not raw.

Additionally, terms like "natural" or "pure" normally have little significance when it comes to knowing if it is actually "raw" honey.

Some beekeepers may not necessarily pasteurize their honey, but they may still heat it to some degree.

Therefore if we want a truly "raw" product we need to ask questions about it specifically.

Find a local farm or beekeeper whom you can trust! That way you know exactly where the honey comes from and how it is prepared.

In fact, it is much better for our health to consume honey from our local area anyway, rather than honey that came from the plants of another area.

While non-local, raw honey won't hurt us, local, raw honey will have more benefits for us.

There is a growing awareness that raw honey from local sources is beneficial for helping to support immune system health and overall wellness.

So in summary:

  • Honey is one of nature's purest foods for promoting general health. A superfood!

  • A daily dose of raw honey can make a big difference during allergy season.

  • Raw honey is a powerful immune booster.

  • Raw honey is pure, unheated, unpasteurized, & unprocessed.

  • Always ask how the honey was produced.

  • It's best to get it from a local beekeeper whom you trust.

This sums up my research on the benefits of local raw honey!!

Here, at Borntrager Dairy, we have bees out in the pasture.    My cousin, Darren, takes care of them & extracts the honey.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with him!!  We would be lost without our delicious honey source!!

We as a family, use raw honey daily.   From smoothies to drizzling our meats to baking breads and cookies, honey is a staple in our home!!

We've pretty well deleted sugar from our diet as we like to use whole superfoods for optimal health.

Recently,  my daughter decided she was going on a diet;  no sugar for a month!

She was talking about it for days & preparing us for what she had to miss out on, etc. etc.

Funny thing was, when the first day came, she realized on a normal day there was only 2 things she had to do without- mayo & chocolate chips!

A few days later, she decided it wasn't worth it, as her diet was staying "normal".๐Ÿ˜‹

Whether you are new to using honey for your allergies and/or as a sweetener; or have been using it for years, what are some ways YOU like to use honey??

Let me know by commenting below!!๐Ÿ˜‹

Now please excuse me, while I go & find a mayo recipe with honey in place of sugar!๐Ÿ˜Š

As for the chocolate chips.... well.... we all know we need some chocolate in our lives!!๐Ÿ’

Have a "honey-filled" week!!
