Of beautiful rainbows, toddler woes, & homeschool days..

Hi there!

God keeps His promises!!  🌈

He will never leave us or forsake us, He is Always there, waiting for us to come back to Him.

I needed that rainbow… It was/is a beautiful reminder to me that even in the chaos around me, God is still here right beside me. Blessed be His name!🙌🏻

And all the rainbow awe & excitement had another great twist to this mama’s evening! 😍

The three-yr-old was very clingy, did not want to go out & ride-along & help with chores, just tugged & whined at mama’s skirt; even tho mama had spent a great deal of time playing & cuddling with him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That certain mama was getting a bit exasperate🤦🏻‍♀️... & then she was Blessed… by a rainbow.🌈

A rainbow.

So Beautiful.

So Exquisite.

So compelling…

The three-yr-old left his mother’s side!👏🏻🤩

He ventured out into the evening with his siblings.

Beautiful Sigh!🥰

Now! What will she do first?

The dishes got washed in a hurry, & her mind flew here & there, and alas a blog post was birthed!🥳

The silence, it lasted for just a half-hour.

But that was enough!

Her mind had a break from all little child troubles. And now she could go on & enjoy the evening!

And the 3-yr-old? Well, he’s in training...🥴🥰

Thank you, Father God, for rainbows!

And then there are Homeschool days...

First of all, I want to Bless YOU for starting to homeschool this year. Whether you wanted to, or you felt you needed to, to give your children the best education… you are Amazing!💯

Homeschooling your children takes a lot of grit, perseverance, & energy. 💪🏻

As we’ve entered our 9th year of homeschooling (when did that happen?)🤔, I’m starting to gather this mental list of ‘inevitable patterns’ that always seem to follow us thru the years…😶

I thought you might find some of them interesting!🤣

Week 1& 2

  • The excitement of new books and a new year.📚

  • Big expectations of the schedule working this year.😜

  • Starting in slow so as not to be overwhelmed.

  • Working hard to keep the house in tip-top shape.💪🏻

  • Reality is not in sight.🤭

Week 3 & 4

  • The excitement is still high.🥳

  • The schedule is somewhat working.😉

  • All the subjects have been added.

  • The house is starting to see the ‘importance’ of school.. aka the dust is appearing on everything.🤫

  • Reality is on the horizon.😧

Week 5

  • “We can do this…” with gritting teeth.😬  “But MOM!”😏

  • The schedule is not working.🤔

  • “Ok, this week we will not be doing any optional items.”🤦🏻‍♀️

  • The house is now gathering cobwebs.🕸😳

  • Reality is staring us in the face.😢

Week 6

  • Ah… yes! We made it to 6 weeks!

  • Let’s follow the routine… not schedules. 😊 (Schedules work great for lots of homeschoolers, us…not so much.)

  • We settle in & realize this is our life for the next 30ish weeks.🤗

  • We snuggle on the couch reading & learning about Jesus, animal habitats, & people groups.🥰

  • We smile. This is reality. And we love it.😍

  • Yes, we still have difficult days, but we know we are there for each other & we will work it out!

And thus has been our first 6 weeks the last several years.

A dear friend once told me it takes 6 weeks to get in the school groove again. I agree.

A few other things I’ve gleaned over the years…

  • Make learning exciting.. aka put your heart into it! You will be irresistible.🥰

  • Be a student of your child's heart. (Know when they need to be encouraged & when to give them a break.)

  • Make real life school.😉

  • Read lots out loud.📚📚

  • Learn new things in a different setting. (the balcony is a great place to learn about fractions; much better than a boring old school desk)💃🏻

  • Have lots of healthy snacks available… cheese curds, cheese sticks, raisins, jerky, and occasionally a dark chocolate piece… they are great motivators!🧀🍫

  • Encourage, encourage, encourage.🥳🥳

If you have any questions or thoughts on homeschooling your children, please message me! I’d love to hear your thoughts or questions!

I'll gladly share what has worked for me.

Most of all, know the Creator is on your side!🙌🏻 He brought you to this place & He won’t let you sit!

For His Glory!

-Arlene💖

P. S. We have gotten all our fresh pork & beef cuts back from the processor!  🥩

It will be a few more weeks before the cured cuts come back… they are getting tastier as we speak.🥓😋😋
